The Basics

After purchasing and installing Minecraft, you start your own new world. Each world has a different starting environment, but if you explore enough, you can find anything in your world. However, I would recommend to begin in World 1 the first time, as you will spawn close to trees and caves. From you start a new world you have one day (ten minutes) to build three components, which will lead you to success:

1. A shelter:
You need a shelter to protect you from the evil of the night in Minecraft. A good shelter should be located close to your spawn point, so it is easy to find if you get killed. Also, it should be close to resources, so you don't end up spending most of your game time running back and forth between your house and mining resources. Your shelter can be a house, a cave or a hideout. Be creative!

2. Weapons and tools:
The first thing you should make is a tool bench, where you make one wood pickaxe. With this pickaxe, get some stone, and make a stone pickaxe / shovel / axe, depending on what kind of shelter you want. Also make a stone sword, as this makes more damage than a wooden sword.

3. Torches:
To be able to see throughout the night, you will need torches. For this you need to find coal, which is usually located close to the entrance of caves and dungeons, close to the surface of the world. Torches enable you to see in the dark, prevent monsters from spawning, and most importantly to help you locate your home when lost. The Minecraft world is 8x larger than earth, so you do not want to get lost there.
