Building a Hideout

Building a hideout is the simplest form of shelter you can get. You don't even need any tools to build one, but I recommend using a shovel, as this speeds up the process. You will also gain a lot of dirt which you can use later in the game while for example exploring dungeons or caves, or creating a navigation tower. One of the main benefits of making a hideout is that you can expand it without any resources. Just dig a wall a few blocks in, or make an extra room. It is all up to you!

Start by digging an entrance to your hideout. If you don’t make the entrance wider than 1 block, you have better chances of defending yourself against monsters in the game: spiders are too big to fit in a 1 block wide entrance, and skeletons can’t shoot you. Make sure the ceiling of your hideout is at least 2 blocks lower than the ground, as this decreases the chances of digging through the roof.
Light up your hideout and you are done. The major drawback of having a hideout is that it is difficult to find if you get lost. Therefore, make a navigation tower!
Your hideout should have an underground tunnel to your mineshaft so you can access it during the night.
